Piet de Klerk

Special Envoy for Counterterrorism

Piet de Klerk is the Special Envoy for Counterterrorism, and works to strengthen the Netherlands’ role in international efforts to fight terrorism while working closely with the relevant agencies in the Netherlands, including the Office of the National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism (NCTV). Key priorities include the international approach to jihadists and tackling terrorist funding mechanisms. Mr. De Klerk began his role in the fall of 2014, and immediately visited Washington DC to take part in an international conference on sanctions against ISIS and the Assad regime in Syria. “A broadly supported package of international sanctions must make funding ISIS even more difficult,” Mr. De Klerk said.
