STORM, designed by students of TU Eindhoven, is the world’s first electric touring motorcycle.

The STORM Eindhoven electric motorcycle will arrive at the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Washington, D.C. for a press conference on October 24.

STORM Eindhoven, the world’s first long-distance electric motorcycle, was built by students at the Technical University of Eindhoven in the Netherlands, in cooperation with various industrial partners, knowledge institutes and government agencies.

STORM Eindhoven represents the future of electric mobility and sustainable transportation. To illustrate its viability, the motorcycle is driving on an 80-day world tour to demonstrate that the motorcycle is a quiet and efficient mode of transportation that minimizes space on the road.

The motorcycle can reach up to a speed of 100 miles per hour and travel more than 230 miles per charge on its replaceable, modular battery packs. The first leg of the world tour took the motorcycle across Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iran, and China.

In the US, the motorcycle traveled down the West Coast and through the South and Midwest before reaching Washington, D.C. on October 23. STORM Eindhoven will end its tour of America in New York on Oct. 26. At the conclusion of the global tour, the motorcycle will have traveled more than 14,000 miles.

At the press conference, the STORM Eindhoven team will present the motorcycle, and discuss the global mission and the future of electric mobility. Weather permitting, members of the media will have the opportunity to ride the motorcycle as a passenger.

Press conference schedule:

  • 8:45 a.m. Coffee and welcome by Deputy Ambassador Joanneke Balfoort
  • 9 a.m. Presentation by the STORM team on their mission
  • 9:25 a.m. Presentation by AutomotiveNL on Dutch ambitions for electric driving
